Jerry Wayne"Shorty" Williams
Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Wayne “Shorty” Williams, of Monroe, formerly of Winnsboro, will be 2:00PM Sunday, September 17, 2023, in the chapel of Young’s Community Memorial Funeral Home Winnsboro with Rev. Kevin Bates and Rev. Jason Hodge officiating. Interment will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery near Winnsboro under the direction of Young’s Community Memorial Winnsboro. Visitation will be from 10:00AM until time of service Sunday at the funeral home.

Shorty was born May 16, 1949 near Winnsboro, LA and passed from this life on September 15, 2023 in Monroe, LA at the age of 74. He attended Winnsboro High School where he played basketball. Can’t you just imagine drawing the assignment of defending Shorty? As a young man, Jerry served his country in the United States Army, spending time overseas until his honorable discharge and settling in Winnsboro. Later in life, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, keeping a vegetable garden and hosting cookouts. He loved spending time with family and friends while playing cards or dominoes. If you knew him well, he probably beat you at both more than once. Shorty also had a wicked sense of humor and infectious laugh. Having more than one himself, Shorty had a penchant for coining nicknames for those whom he knew and loved. I guarantee your life was better having known him. Shorty’s loving kindness and dedication were an example the rest of us can only hope to emulate. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and a friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Janet K. Williams; his sons, Kelly Dewayne Williams and Johnathan Poland Williams; his parents, Homer and Edna Williams; one sister, Erma Arceneaux; and four brothers Homer “Bro” Williams, Ernest Lee Williams, Rev. Kenneth Glynn Williams, and Ricky Joe Williams.

He is survived by cherished grandsons, Jared Williams (Allyson) and
Jonathan (Cheyanne) Williams; his great-grandchildren, Darrick and Charlie Mae Williams; his stepchildren, Calvin Seymour (Stephanie), Amy Seymour Angus (Martin) and Rebecca Seymour Bradley (Greg); his daughter-in-law, Pam Herring Meador; his granddaughters, Beth Angus, Lauren and Olivia Seymour, Reagan Bradley; one brother, Rev. J.L. Williams (Brenda) and five sisters Janet Brown, Geneva Washam, Nancy Strong, Judy Hodge and Patricia Douglas; special friends, Beverly Stewart, Greg Williamson, and Sandra Crenshaw; also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Jared Williams, Jonathan Williams, Calvin Seymour, Jay Fowler, Scott Washam, Jeff Hodge, Donny Brown and Rocky Williams.
