Obituary for Brenda Wood (Morris)

Funeral services for Brenda Joyce Morris Wood, 81, of West Monroe, LA, will be Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Young’s Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro with Bro. Britt Keahey officiating. Interment will follow at Legion Memorial Cemetery near Newellton, LA, under the direction of Young’s Community Memorial. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 2 PM in the chapel of the funeral home.

Mrs. Brenda was born April 13, 1941, in Chatfield, Arkansas, to Everett and Bessie Morris, and passed from this life on Sunday, December 4, 2022, in Monroe, LA. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church and was a retired Medical Records Coordinator. She loved traveling with her late husband on cattle buying trips and was an expert seamstress. She enjoyed cake decorating and loved cooking for family and friends, especially baking her signature German Chocolate cake. She was also talented at roller skating. Mrs. Brenda loved flowers, animals, and hummingbirds. She also leaves behind her canine buddy, “Sissy”.

She is preceded in death by her spouse, John Stanley Wood; her parents, Everett and Bessie Morris, Sr.; a sister, Jeanette Morris Ivey; a sister, Janice Morris McCarta; a brother Everett “Butch” Morris, Jr.; and a brother, Norman V. Morris, Sr.

Survivors include her son, John S. Wood, Jr. and wife Margaret of Mountain View, MO; a daughter, Stephanie Wood Hamilton of West Monroe, LA; four grandchildren, John Stanley Wood, III; Kyle Lee Reid, Jessica Renee Aycock, and William Raymond Wood; ten Great-grandchildren, McKinley Breann Reid, Bailey Leann Reid, Gage Lane Wood, Alley Marie Wood, Kinsley Claire Wood, Waylon Clay Wood, Ethan Wayne Aycock, Chloe Ann Marie Kelts, Mason Douglas Denning, and Maddux Aaron Denning; two sisters, Patricia Morgan and husband Jack; and Cecelia Woodruff; and a host of extended family and friends.

Pallbearers will be John Wood, III, Kyle Reid, Bill Wood, Ethan Aycock, Lee Aycock and Maddux Denning.

Honorary pallbearer will be Jack Morgan.

Family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
